How is sparkling water made?

This is done by an injection of carbon dioxide gas (CO2) into the Natural Mineral Water.

Is Bottled Water treated?

Natural Mineral Water must come from an identified and protected source. It is guaranteed to be consistent in composition and naturally wholesome without any treatment. Natural Mineral Water status is only granted to waters that are demonstrated to be free from pollution and have a characteristic stable composition.

What is the difference between hard and soft water?

Hard and soft water considers minerals in the water. Predominantly Calcium and Magnesium.

Water in different parts of the UK varies in the number of dissolved mineral ions it contains. This determines whether it is hard or soft water.

There are advantages and disadvantages to each. The damage that can be caused to water pipes and appliances by hard water means that water may need to be softened.

Rainwater is, naturally, slightly acidic because it contains carbonic acid, formed by the reaction between water and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. When the rain falls, it flows over rocks or soaks into the ground and then passes through layers of rock. Compounds from the rocks dissolve into the water. Hard water contains dissolved compounds, usually calcium or magnesium. The presence of calcium ions and magnesium ions in the water makes it hard.

The types of rocks found in different regions determine how hard or soft the water will be. The water in some parts of the country is soft because it has low levels of dissolved calcium and magnesium compounds, while the water in other parts of the country is hard because it has higher levels of dissolved calcium and magnesium compounds.

What is the difference between Spring Water & Natural Mineral Water?

Both Natural Mineral Water and Spring Water must:

• Originate from a natural, protected, and specific underground source
• Be bottled at source
• Be microbiologically safe to drink without treatment

The main difference between Natural Mineral Water and Spring Water is the requirement of Natural Mineral Water to have a stable and characteristic mineral composition. Producers of naturally sourced waters are stewards of the land and because these natural waters must be free from contamination, the aquifers from which they are drawn must be unpolluted and the source protected. Bottled drinking water, sometimes known as table water or purified water, is drinking water that is bottled and is neither Spring Water nor Natural Mineral Water. It can come from a variety of sources, including municipal supplies.

Can plastic water bottles be recycled?

Our bottles use 100% recycled materials, made from rPET (Technical name – Polyethylene Terephthalate), which is widely recyclable.

Does Bottled Water vary in taste and nutrition?

All plain water contains no calories or sugar. The mineral content of naturally sourced Bottled Waters can vary depending on the geology of the land where they come from which gives each Bottled Water its taste.

For example, some waters are naturally higher in calcium or magnesium.

What do the minerals in water do and are there benefits?

Minerals add flavour. Naturally sourced Bottled Waters have different concentrations of minerals in them, depending on the geology of the land that they come from, which gives each bottled water its taste.

The most common minerals found in mineral waters are Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Potassium, and Bicarbonate. Typical values mg / L for Aqua Pura – Calcium 19, Magnesium 7, Potassium 3, Sodium 11, Bicarbonate 55, Chloride 15, Sulphate 14, Nitrate 20, pH (at Source) 6.4.

Is Bottled Water in the UK regulated?

Yes. Gaining Natural Mineral Water recognition takes a period of 2 years.

All Bottled Waters are now regulated in England by The Natural Mineral Water, Spring Water and Bottled Drinking Water Regulations (England) 2007 SI 2785 The principles of regulation for Natural Mineral Water differ from those for other drinking water. Natural Mineral Water is regulated through a process of source recognition and catchment protection – only certain sources are suitable, subject to expert evaluation.

All other drinking water is regulated through parametric standards – the water, as delivered, has to be within limits for a wide range of parameters. Natural Mineral Waters are bottled at source from officially recognised sources of underground water which have to be naturally free from pollution and from harmful micro-organisms, stable in mineral analysis, temperature, and rate of flow.

The water may not be treated in a way intended to alter its natural microbiological state or its essential chemical composition. It must demonstrate stability against a set of chemical parameters, and in addition, meet microbiological and chemical standards. The process of recognition can take up to two years, and once designated, the water must carry the proper description – Natural Mineral Water – which cannot be used by any other bottled waters.

Other specific labeling regulations apply, intended to ensure that the consumer can clearly identify the source and not be confused by the same source being given different names, or by waters that are not Natural Mineral Waters being labeled like a Natural Mineral Water.

Is Bottled Water tested?

Due to the food specificity of Bottled Water, the frequency of controls prior, during, and after the production are high.

Therefore, Bottled Water is tested, regularly, at the source, during bottling, and before leaving the plant.

How long will a bottle of water last?

At Aqua Pura we recommend the following:

Once opened keep refrigerated and consume within 3 days and by the date shown.

Store in a cool dry place away from light, strong odors, and chemicals.

Aqua Pura has 2 years shelf from production on plain still water and 9 months on Sparkling plain water products.

Can you take Bottled Water on a plane?

Yes, subject to applicable airport security measures.
